Are You a Veteran Coming to Prescott Valley or Already Here?

Prescott Valley – A Veteran Friendly Town

United States Flags greet drivers along Highway 69 leading into and out of Prescott Valley on most holidays. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10227 and the American Legion Post 108 are proud to set out the display. The Town of Prescott Valley is so proud of the flag displays it’s asked the VFW and Legion to expand the flag display area.

As another Veteran-Friendly gesture, the Town of Prescott Valley donated land to be used for the Prescott Valley Military Service Monument.

Prescott Valley lies near the heart of Yavapai County, a county equal in size to the state of New Jersey. Based on 2007 statistics, the county’s total population was 223,934. Prescott Valley makes up 17% of that with a population of 38,367.

We estimate that Prescott Valley has a veteran population of 4,575, or 12% of the population. The Veterans Administration has estimated the total veteran population for Yavapai County in 2007 was 26,915. For the same period of time Cook County, where the city of Chicago is located, had an estimated veteran population totaling approximately 5% of their total. This comparison shows Prescott Valley to have over twice the average number of veterans compared to another major metropolitan area.

Healthcare

Northern Arizona VA Health Care System includes the VA hospital in nearby Prescott and provides a continuum of primary and secondary level medical, rehabilitative and long-term care to veterans residing in north central Arizona.

This is one of the premier VA hospitals in the country and likely serves as a draw for many veterans moving to our area.

The current staffed and operating bed level consists of 25 acute medical beds (19 acute medicine and 6 ICU/Telemetry beds), 120 domiciliary beds, and 85 Community Living Center beds.

The US Veterans Initiatives lease 52 domiciliary beds to provide vocational rehabilitation and transitional housing to veterans. In fiscal year 2008, they had 23,002 veterans enrolled and serviced 222,545 outpatient visits.

Local Organizations

Veterans are provided support by a number of organizations within Prescott Valley such as the VFW, American Legion, and even chapters of “Airborne”, “Underage Vets”, and "Submariners”:

Recently, the Fain family donated land for the VFW to use for building a VFW Post Building.
